I don't think we should be implementing a deletion scheme like other branches either way. The way I see it, our rating module is there mostly to compare the result to the original article's, to see how well it fares outside its home branch. I don't think deleting unpopular articles here has ever been an option.

I think that too, embedd is best way to do this. Also, my answer to Mafiew question above (Plus, what if EN-voters mostly dislike an OK translation?): they will just delete it like every other article, but we pick our best articles to ensure that this will never happen.

You have my full support, lets do this.

Embedd them from INT (recommended)

Definitely the most practical solution in may ways but EN-staff may feel uneasy with displaying articles from another wiki, that can be edited or vandalized by members of the other wiki (especially with our use of the Join button). We might need to lock embedded pages as to ensure EN the article will not be altered.

Link to INT

EN-staff may feel uneasy relying on the rating module of our wiki (Join button, etc.) to determine whether people like the article or not. Plus, what if EN-voters mostly dislike an OK translation? We do not have a Deletion Policy based on rating and I honestly don't want one.

Copy them

Less practical, we'll need to keep both versions identical as you already mentionned, but I don't see any other problem.

So, to bring new wind here, I propose to propose the content below to EN-O5.

The first sentence only is valid if all branches approve of this formulation. EN Representatives are asked to provide hints how to formulate for maximum success, and to foresee questions that will be asked so we can answer them in the proposal. The Review Team is asked to search for mistakes.

Hereby we, the branches of the SCP Foundation, propose to create a hub on the main branch's Wiki, featuring translations from the International Translation Archive from other languages to English. We suggest to count this as another series, similar to -J or -EX, to prevent mixing things up with the main series.

We suggest you delegate staff members who decide what translations to show on your wiki. The background, writing style and references differ from branch to branch, not everything may be suitable for EN from the start. Optionally, we can provide articles we deem ready for EN, if your staff capacity is maxed out.

INT's Review Team will check the chosen translations for any mistakes and format with top priority. We suggest your delegates also check the chosen articles.

There are three ways to add translations to your wiki:

Embedd them from INT (recommended)

There will never be a difference between both translations

Embedded pages are indistinguishable from the original for the reader

Rating module and comments are running on the wiki the page is displayed, and unrelated to each other

The pages will be locked to prevent vandalism

Link to INT

Organizational the best way, but the users will land on INT and we will need a technical solution for them to go back to EN

Users would need to join INT to rate and comment

The pages will be locked to prevent vandalism

Copy them

This bears the disadvantage that both your and our version may differ at some point. This way is not suggested.

Much content will be needed to justify own hubs for each branch, so we recommend to put all translations into this INT-Hub. We have prepared a mock-up of how this might look (please note that this is a mock-up, the content is just for presentation). Of course you are free to use another layout.
As the look of such a hub depends on the amount of content, we have prepared different cases:

Much content

Medium content

Few content

Few content (Alternative)

To make sure that all users notice that they are not in the main series, you could put the INT-SCPs in an own category and apply the INT's theme to it for example.

Agreeing with Grom for this, being in favour of linking directly from EN to INT. It'd raise awareness about this site and the content herein, which I believe is dearly needed if our aim is to let content from the different branches cross-pollinate. Increasing traffic to this place should gradually be prioritized as our archives grow bigger and more qualitative.

I like the idea to forward excelent translations to EN.

To do so I would suggest the following:

Pages with the tag "_o" (pages that are found to be flawless by the Review Team) are reviewed by EN-staff who chooses to publish them on the EN-wiki.

If they find a translation unfit for some reason, they are to inform the author/translator in the comments (maybe the content is too unusual for EN, too explicit or something)

As especially in the beginning there will be only few _o-translations, there should be only one hub for all translations.

How the hub looks should be discussed when we are content about if, and how to do this. In the old INT-hub discussion, if, how and design got mixed up and ended in chaos.

The translated articles should either be linked from the INT-wiki, or included to a page on EN with the [[include]] function (which also works from wiki to wiki).

Either way makes sure, the version on EN is always up to date.

With the include-function, all images have to be directly linked (with http and stuff).

Using the include-function is a little problematic because the votes are not shared among both wikis.

If we'd choose to link, we should add a "back to the EN-wiki" button to such pages. Maybe there are functions which could make sure the button is only shown, if the user comes from EN.

So, if I understood correctly: make a hub and throw in there all of our translation
SomeLanguage->English that have an attention level of "o" or better; this hub (present in SCP-INT) would then be linked in one of the navs in the Main Wiki for english people to see. Right?

If so, I think it's a damn good idea. People still get to know scips from other branches, they still get to know them passing by our site, and quality is assured by the review team. Brilliant.

One thing I'd say though is to put in that hub only the scips/tales with a "_o" level, as this means absolute perfection (so to speak); the "o" level is good, of course, but it does not imply the review team's intervention, whereas the last level can only be removed by the team, and not common users.

So, building on the Quality Assurance thread and the Review Team thread, I have an idea for resurrecting the international translation hub that can be found in the history of this workbench

The main disagreement at the time, if I recall, was whether or not to post articles to the wiki under their original numbers or to post them in this hub under their original number. My concern was that having a different hub that separated the works from the main wiki would cause it to become a content ghetto that would lower the profile of our hard-working international partners instead of raising it.

But, seeing that we now have a platform to create high-quality English translations, I propose the following: That articles that are found to be "o" quality by the Review Team could be reviewed by this site's administration, or another review board set up by the international community.

If vetted, it could then be posted to a hub that would exist on the main wiki. This would ensure that only high-quality and well-translated works get posted and therefore make the translation hub a place where people can discover the best SCPs the world has to offer.

This hub would probably be able to be linked from the side or top bar of the English SCP Wiki.
