I think we could have good use for language-links in the sidebar, like in Wikipedia.

Unfortunatelly I can't program, I can just edit existing code. So I ask all the webdesigners and software developers among you or the users of your branch (which I ask you to point to this thread) to write a script that does the following (which seems not to be possible with wikidot-magic):

• It checks if the current page also exists in other branches.
• If it does it shows a list of links to all versions of this page in each language.
• This list is shown in the sidebar, like in this example (here the links where added manually)

As far as I know, Wikidot supports javascript and it is possible to embed stuff from external pages. Maybe the information can be taken directly from Wikidot, the database of http://scpper.com/ by FiftyNine can be used, or we could borrow Jarvis from the EN-wiki to maintain a new database for this. Or the script just checks all branches wether the page exists or not.

Der Archivar has been looking into this but he currently is not very active and I don't know how far he has come.

Here's a thingy built on pure Wikidot. Dumb as bricks, doesn't check whether this page exists, just assumes it's there. Since we tend to keep URLs intact for compatibility, it works fine with translated articles.
Basically, it takes the current page name and appends it to the site URL.

I already though of this, but as you said, it doesn't check wether the page exists in other branches. As lots of pages will not exist in other branches, users would stop using it, because they usually end up on a non existing page.

I'm working on prototype for embedded interwiki block but I'll need API access to all branches for that (to fetch pages lists from them once a day).

Basically, each branch admins should verify that they have read-access enabled for members ("Manage site" > "Security" > "API") and accept my membership request.

Current status:

Question: what does the enabling of API implies for us? What will people be able to do with it? I'm all in favour for this, but I don't feel like taking a decision without full consciousness of what's going on.

Read access via API expose nothing but things we already can retrieve from wiki by parsing it's pages with scripts (API is just much more convinient to use in scripts).

Write access can potentially be dangerous. For example, it can be used to quickly remove or blank all pages in the wiki (again, it's possible to do that via scripts without API too, but it's more easy with API access). That's why I recommend enabling only read access for members and limiting write access to administrators.

API access is now enabled on our Spanish Wiki, so you can work your magic through it. ;-)

I got what you want to do. But, I can't get reason why you want to do.
What will SCP-JP get if SCP-JP introduce it?

You will get a box in your sidebar to show Links to the same page in other languages, if they exist, like here: http://scpsandboxde.wdfiles.com/local--files/dr-groms-ablage/Language-Snippet.jpg
Of course you can choose not to add this box if you don't like it though.

Enabling API-access is necessary for the snippet to show links to pages in Japanese on other branches, because with API-access the snippet can check if the page exists on JP.
